The key here is to THINK AHEAD and plan for the digital adventures of your content. BEFORE you post it.
PINTEREST. The image above is optimized for Pinterest. Yes, it's the vertical image that Pinterest loves so much. But it's also pre-populated with the data the Pinner will need.
In this example, I've filled out the ALT TEXT in the image with the text I want to display when the article is pinned using the browser's Pin-It Button. Go ahead, try it!
Alternately, you can use the Pinterest tools to do the same right here, creating a hover button that makes it a snap for Pinners to share.
Alternately, you can just post your tweet into Twitshot.com to generate image options.
Include a Twitter-friendly image in your content easily by making it 1024 x 512 pixels. The problem is that TOO often, the author's handle isn't pre-populated in the tweet when I go to share it.
On my own website (I use Weebly), Twitter grabs the website name for tweets. So what did I do? I just changed the name of my site to @laraeastburn! Perhaps not the most elegant solution, but it works! And now no matter what is tweeted from my website, it will carry my handle with it.
The popularity of Click To Tweet links, though, makes it worth figuring out and including in blog posts.
For the example above, these are the steps I took to do that:
How To Make Your Content Twitter Friendly! @laraestburn http://bit.ly/1Wcv6BG pic.twitter.com/nO6ZDgXKY5
Note: You may need to, as I did, publish the blog post first to get the content URL. Then choose your favorite URL shortener to get it all under 140 characters.
For most Facebook shares, the Twitter image size will work just fine! Since I needed to create another image for example's sake, though, I made this one 1200 x 628 pixels - the size needed for Facebook Ads. It's designed to look great in the Facebook feed already.
And BAM! You've just made your content infinitely shareable on social media - removing every annoying obstacle that would get in the way.
